SPES travel news
Welcome to St Peter’s Eaton Square C of E Primary School’s Travel Noticeboard. This board is designed to keep our pupils, staff, parents/carers, and visitors informed about local travel-related news and initiatives.
Reaching for TfL Gold Star Level Accreditation
St Peter’s Eaton Square is currently aiming for Gold level accreditation, putting us in the top 10% of London schools. Our Eco Committee has been instrumental in our drive to promote best practices and see a measurable reduction in the number of journeys made by car every day.
Cycling and Scooter Parking
Since the pavement has been extended, we have more scooter and cycle parking to encourage our pupils and staff to scoot or cycle to school. This helps to reduce congestion, improve air quality, and enhance road safety around our school.
For cycling routes and information in Westminster, please visit the Cycling in Westminster page.
Bikeability Training
St Peter’s Eaton Square C of E Primary School offers Bikeability, a leading cycle training programme. Bikeability teaches our students practical skills for safe cycling on today’s roads, boosting their confidence and encouraging more frequent cycling. For more information, visit the Bikeability website.
School Street
During the morning hours of 8:30 am – 9:30 am and afternoon hours of 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm, we are a pedestrian and cycle zone only. This initiative aims to create a safer and more pleasant environment for our school community.
Local Trips
Due to our central location, we encourage our teachers to utilise the locality to enhance the curriculum. Our children are able to walk to iconic venues such as Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and the Saatchi Gallery, to name but a few.
TfL’s Cycle Skills
If you would like to improve your bicycle skills, there are tailored courses to suit your individual abilities. For more information, please visit TfL’s Cycle Skills page
Home or Out Alone (NSPCC)
There’s no legal age limit for a child to stay home or go out alone, but it’s against the law to leave a child alone if it puts them at risk. Every child is different, so it’s up to you to decide whether they’re ready. For more guidance, please read the NSPCC’s Home or Out Alone guide.
Sustainable Travel
As an Eco Accredited school sustainability is very important to our children at St Peter’s. According to the Education and Inspections Act 2006, local authorities must promote sustainable travel to and from school, and between schools and other institutions. You can learn more about Westminster’s efforts in sustainable travel by visiting the Westminster School Travel Plans page.
