Home Learning

At St Peter’s, we believe that home learning should build on what children learn in school and help them to ‘know more and remember more.’ From September 2025, our home learning approach has been updated to provide a balance of online practice, project work and daily reading.

Reception – Tapestry

https://tapestryjournal.com

In Reception, we use the Tapestry app to share children’s learning journeys between school and home. Parents and carers can view photos, videos, and notes about their child’s progress, and are encouraged to add their own observations from home.

Getting Started with Tapestry:

  • Download the Tapestry Journal app (available on iOS and Android).
  • Log in using the details sent by school.
  • View updates from teachers and add your own photos, videos or notes from home.
  • For help, contact the school office.

Years 1–6 – Doodle Learning

https://doodlelearning.com

Children use Doodle Learning to support their learning in maths and SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) at home. Teachers are able to monitor online interaction and progress, ensuring children are supported and celebrated for their efforts.

Getting Started with Doodle Learning:

  • Download the DoodleMaths and DoodleEnglish apps (both available on iOS and Android).
  • Use the login details provided by school.
  • Encourage your child to practise ‘little and often’ (just 10 minutes daily is most effective).
  • Parents can download the DoodleConnect app to track progress and celebrate effort.
  • For help, visit the Doodle Help Centre or speak to your child’s teacher.

Years 2–6 – Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)

https://ttrockstars.com

Children practise their times tables through Times Tables Rock Stars. This helps build speed and fluency in multiplication, which is essential for success in maths.

Getting Started with TTRS:

  • Visit the Times Tables Rock Stars website or download the app (available on iOS and Android).
  • Log in with the username and password provided by school.
  • Encourage your child to practise regularly — short, frequent sessions make the biggest difference.
  • Teachers can track progress and celebrate effort in school.

Termly Project
Each term, children complete a “Knowing More, Remembering More” project. These projects encourage children to make links in their learning and develop long-term knowledge retention.

Reading – Our Priority

We ask that all children read daily where possible. Reading is the foundation for learning — it builds vocabulary, deepens understanding, and supports success across every subject. The more children read, the more they are able to ‘know more and remember more.’
